Essential Cash and Livelihoods Support to Vulnerable Communities Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic Project

Project overall objective:

Vulnerable communities, especially women, affected by COVID-19 in 17 provinces in Laos PDR are able to cope with the worst economic impacts of the pandemic and enhance their livelihoods resilience.

Project activity:

  • Provide the necessary facilities to households in the urban and remote area are affected from CVID-19 pandemic.
  • Distribution of COVID-19 hygiene kits and food packages with information on COVID-19 (with rice, disinfectant, and masks), to the poorest families, the elderly, the disabled and single mothers, children who are randomly selected.
  • Training on professionalism and support are essential for small business development for target provinces.
  • Training on group management skills for informal women’s organizations in 25 targets.
  • Support Budget for the public sector in exchange visit on project implementation in Vietnam, with a total of 18 participants
  • The project exchange visit and the meeting will be held in Vientiane, with 15 participants/2 times representation from government and CSOs. (Implemented by Oxfam in Laos).
  • Provide economic stimulus packages in the form of tools, training, .and inputs to target households in fours livelihoods areas of choices: 1) Livestock; 2) Horticultural; 3) Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFPs); 4) Urban.
  • Following the distribution of the stimulus packages in the targeted individuals/groups may want to develop their livelihoods in 5 provinces, with the goal of monitoring each village twice
  • Reflection meetings with local government offices in 5 provinces to evaluate project progress, developed project implementation plan, strengthen to the project team and partners, share learning outcome, pending issues and further improvement.
  • Selection and support of business ideas (business training, providing funds for business initiation). Target in 5 provinces.
  • Set up of a Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM) to enable community members to safely provide feedback and seek responses in relation to project activities by the district Lao Federation and Trade Union Office. Target 80 villages.
  • Collect transformative stories, such as success stories or lessons learned, and record them in video format for future lessons and case studies. Target 3 stories/year.
