Gender Development Association not only run activities for Women’s empowerment and gender equality, but also aim to be the center of providing  information for communities. GDA staff recently had an opportunity to exchange information on women’s economic empowerment and gender justice in economic development in Chiang Mai,Thailand. They were informed specifically there is a demand to not only increase women’s access to resources and services, but to also facilitate individuals, households and communities to understand, challenge and change the social norms and formal structures that create inequality between women and men.

The workshop was organized as part of the WEMAN programme1, and as a result of the learning obtained GDA’s staff will use the experience with the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) for developing context specific projects for the region. The approach is relatively new in the region and there is a need for a solid innovation and capacity development component for creating a pool of local experts in the region, and a mechanism to assure that they are capable of delivering specialized training and support.
