On the 22nd of February 2015 I attended Gender training with staff from Oxfam and Camkid.
The training was held for 2 days by Camkid for villagers in Hauyxay Noy village Huayxay district, Bokeo province.
On Day 1 of the training our team and government staff members at the provincial level joined the Gender training with the villagers in Ban Huaxay Noy. At the workshop the government staff opened with a ceremony and Mrs. Phonexay, the director of Camkid also delivered a speech about the purpose the workshop:
- To promote the gender concept to the ethnic Khmuu people.
- To let the ethnic people know about gender.
- To promote women’s empowerment and leadership
All our team members introduced ourselves to the participants to tell them our purpose for attending.
After the ceremonial opening we divided the group into 5 sub-groups to discuss about what we like and dislike in ourselves by painting. All the groups later presented their discussion to exchange with the other groups.
In the afternoon of day 1 we had discussion about the issues in the family by using a diamond on paper to talk about what we liked and disliked. All the groups presented to the other groups about their findings on how to solve the issues.
Day 2: We continued to find the way how to solve the issue that we found by using the balance tree. All the participants paid attention to the workshop. It was very hard for them however they were very interested in it and in trying to find the way to find answers to the problems they identified.
In the evening of the day 2 our team viewed a performance on the Gender story show by ethnic group ( Khmmu). It was a wonderful performance because it showed us how to promote gender issues without the need to use paper.
Most of the participants said that it was very good training for them because it helps them know many things about gender issues such as: violence, gender equality, involvement and leadership.
One woman said that I am very proud that I can join this workshop because this is my first time involved in gender learning and I got many things from it to bring it back to my family and also to teach to the others.
Ms. Air said that:”I am proud that Camkid held this workshop which let me know many things especially on Gender, what I like and dislike, to use right or power to decide in something and others issue that happen in the family. I believe that I would bring the knowledge that I get from the workshop to improve myself, my family and help others people who have a problem as well as I can do.”
